This is a very rough draft. I welcome all suggestions/corrections/comments. I've put the French in brackets where I'm not certain of my interpretation, or where the English differs markedly from the French.

"everyone" --> "each of us"? which is better? it would emphasize the collective ...

建議：其實依我看來...

經常看到 "for what it's worth" 被人從字面上翻成「不論它有沒有價值」，這裡面的「它」讀起來則可能是指對話中提到的任何東西。其實勉強來說，這樣翻是不會造成觀眾太大的困擾，也還說得上有道理，但是終究還是不正確的。

"For what it's worth" 屬於那種字面沒有什麼意義的英文常用辭。最主要的作用是用來安慰別人。意思大概是說，我要說幾句話（"it's") 試圖安慰你，但是不曉得會不會有作用，會不會有價值（"worth"）。

舉例：

A: I don't think I am a good singer.
B: For what it's worth, I think you're a great singer.

第二種用法，比較少看到，就是在提出意見時會用到（通常是反對意見），通常是表示 speaker 不確定他的看法會不會被接受，所以這樣委婉地說出來。

舉例：

A: Global warming has serious consequences.
B: For what it's worth, I've read several reports that say otherwise.
